Acrobats and trampolinists of the Edenvale and Brakpan based Gym Masters Gymnasts and Masters Gymnasts Clubs have been hard at work preparing for and competing in various competitions.
In this busy part of the season, the gymnasts have taken part in acrobatic competitions on 22 July and 5 August, whilst the trampolinists took part in qualifying events on 29 July and 12 August. The competitions, some of which have been qualifying events for the annual SA Gymnastics Games, have been taking place in various parts of Johannesburg.
With the majority of the clubs’ gymnasts having achieving podium positions and in many cases won their events, the trampolinists now turn their attention to preparing for the SA Gymnastics Games, whilst the acrobats will compete in the qualifying regional and provincial events.
On 5 August, high-performance trampolinist, Ethan Strydom, travelled to Port Elizabeth to take part in the national trials to represent South Africa in the World Age Group Competition. Whilst coming just short of the four allocated places, Ethan is next in line as the 1st reserve for the SA team. This result is ahead of schedule in the plan for his qualification to the world event in 2018.
